Jebel Toubkal is located in the Toubkal National Park, approximately 65km south of Marrakech. The trek starts from Imlil Valley.

Pickup: Included from your hotel or Riad in Marrakech on Day 1 (8:00 AM).

Important Information

  • Physical Requirement: This is a challenging trek requiring good physical condition and previous hiking experience.
  • Altitude: Proper acclimatization is built into the itinerary to minimize risk of altitude sickness.
  • Season: Best conditions for summer ascent are June through September. Winter ascents require technical equipment.
  • Packing: Warm layers, waterproof jacket, sturdy hiking boots, sun protection, and a headlamp are essential.
  • Mules: Your main luggage (15kg max) is carried by mules. You only carry a daypack with water, snacks, and layers.

4-Day Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → Imlil → Aremd Village

Drive + Trek: 3 hours / 4-5 hours trekking

Pickup from your Marrakech hotel at 8:00 AM. Scenic 1.5-hour drive to Imlil (1,740m). Meet your mountain guide and mule team. Begin trek through the Mizane Valley, passing walnut groves and traditional Berber villages. Ascend to the village of Aremd for overnight in a local Berber guesthouse. Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

Altitude: 1,740m → 1,900m Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Aremd → Toubkal Refuge (Mouflon)

Trek: 4-5 hours

Breakfast with mountain views. Trek along the valley floor, crossing streams and ascending through juniper and pine forests. The landscape becomes more rugged as you approach the high mountains. Arrive at the Toubkal Refuge (3,207m) run by the French Alpine Club. Afternoon for acclimatization and preparation for the summit day. Dinner and overnight at the refuge.

Day 3: Summit Day! Refuge → Jebel Toubkal (4,167m) → Refuge

Trek: 8-10 hours

Early start (4:00 AM - 5:00 AM) for the summit push. Ascend steep switchbacks over rocky terrain, crossing a snowfield (conditions permitting). The final section is a challenging scramble to the summit ridge. Reach the summit of Jebel Toubkal (4,167m) as the sun rises—breathtaking panoramic views of the High Atlas, Sahara desert, and Anti-Atlas mountains. Celebrate, take photos, then descend carefully back to the refuge for a well-deserved rest. Dinner and second night at the refuge.

Day 4: Refuge → Imlil → Marrakech

Trek + Drive: 3-4 hours trekking / 1.5 hours drive

Breakfast at the refuge. Descent back through the Mizane Valley to Imlil, enjoying the scenery you climbed on Day 1. Celebrate your achievement with a farewell lunch in Imlil. Transfer back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon (approx 5:00 PM). Drop off at your hotel.

Do I need previous hiking experience?

What about altitude sickness?

Our itinerary is designed for proper acclimatization with a night at the refuge before summit day. Our guides are trained to recognize altitude sickness symptoms. If symptoms occur, we will descend immediately.

What is the accommodation like?

Nights 1 and 2 are in a traditional Berber guesthouse (shared rooms, basic but comfortable). Night 3 is at the Toubkal Refuge (shared dormitory with bunk beds, blankets provided, but bring a sleeping bag liner).

Is travel insurance required?

Yes, mandatory. You must have travel insurance that covers mountain trekking up to 4,200m and emergency evacuation. Please provide proof of insurance before departure.

Can I rent hiking equipment?

Yes, you can rent boots, jackets, and sleeping bags in Imlil. Please inform us in advance of any rental needs.
